Choices have to be made about every moment of free time. Not that I don't enjoy "blogging", but it is/can be a time sucker. I do read all your blogs, but don't always leave messages. That doesn't mean that I don't care or think about you...I do...alot. It just means that I am trying to balance it all.

So, let's see. Since my last post (oh, the tatt healed VERY nicely), I have gone through counseling to reconnect with myself, attended my 30 year reunion, went to Valley Ridge for a workshop with Nina (which was great by the way), had the inside of my house entirely painted (including ceilings), have melted in 100 degree plus temps, signed up for two internet classes, and have had company. I wish I could write details about every event, but I'm ready to get into my studio.

I will say that I am very greatful...for so many things. I have reconnected with some really, really good friends from high school. It is almost like having new sisters. Even though 30 years has gone by, we just picked up where we left off. I feel like a void has been filled having things gals back in my life. There are some guy friends too, but there is something so special about the bond between women...women that get one another and accept you for who you are. Those friendships are really hard to find at times.

So, Taylor...I have been in my studio working on a journal and journal pages. I seem to always come back to journaling/journal pages as a first love. I still love to make jewelry, but it is too hot to work with my torch in the garage, so that will be delayed until fall. For now, journaling will be my passion and creative outlet. A class with MaryAnn Moss striked a cord of inspiration...so 12 cans of spraypaint later...I was on a roll. I'm also taking a class with Suzi Blu and it is also just as much fun and inspirational.

Okay, back to the studio.

For Kelly

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/SeH-EJUcRXI/AAAAAAAAAOs/hTLH6pxss6g/s320/New+Tattoo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323815581703226738" />
I have neglected my blog for far too long. I'm going to make a promise to myself to update it at least once a week. But, they may be boring posts as I have not had much time to do anything but work lately...so it seems. I have a lot to share, but am just drained by day end. Our main PC is "sick" so my wireless is down at home making it even harder to access the internet from home. So where am I now updating this Easter morninig? Yep, at work. Trying to catch up from the days off for Artfest and then a funeral in WI. Jeff's Father passed away last Sunday at the age of 86. He lived a great life, but it was still hard for Jeff to say goodbye. It made me think about a lot of things, like the blessings I have in my life, which includes my friends. To you reading, you are a blessing to me and friends that I truely cherish. Life IS too short and blazes by so quickly.

These past six months have brought great change and growth for me. It has been empowering and yet frigtening at times. I have a new understanding of who I am as a woman and human being. In recognition of this change, I finally decided to do IT. I got my first tattoo. I have wanted one for years. Most of you know my favorite word is "hope." I knew that needed to be incorporated in my tattoo, but I wanted it as a Kanji symbol. Then I saw a picture of Jane Wynn's new Cicada tattoo and it all came together for me. The Cicada in Chinese represents the symbol of "rebirth." Once I explained to the artist what I wanted (I had to wait 4 months to get in with this artist) he knew immediately how to incorporate the two and drew it out in about 5 minutes. It was exactly what I had envisioned. Yes, it did hurt, but it was worth every minute. I LOVE it. I actually teared up when I first saw it..not because it hurt, but because it was ME and forever will remind me of this time in my life.

Tagged

I've been tagged by Kelly and Catherine to list 7 random things about myself:
1) I eat dark Dove chocolate every morning on my way to work.
2) I hate to go barefoot. But I'm having Thanksgiving at my house this year...hmmmm...interesting....
6) I walk on a wooded path every day to help "ground" me (plus the pups need their exercise).
7) I need at least a good hour of "nothing" in order to get a good night's sleep.

Everyone I would have tagged, has already been tagged!

Bronze Clay...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/SOAx7yid0YI/AAAAAAAAAK4/ueMkf2Vej4I/s320/Bronze+Clay.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5251252068762374530" />
Fun stuff. We never go anywhere due to the traffic and all, which is perfectly fine with me as I get three days in my studio! The first day we did a bit of work in the garage and Jeff finally hung my peg board above my soldering station. I absolutely LOVE getting organized. Second on the list was getting my torch all set up again....now we are back in action! I bounced all around in different directions this weekend. First I finished a piece for a very special person. This is SO NOT me, but I had fun making it. The piece is titled, a Glimmer of Hope. The focal has a little shadowbox that safe keeps a little PMC textured circle with a tiny Swarovski crystal, and I mean tiny! It is about the size of a pin head, and thus represents glimmer."

My second piece is a new direction in my metal work. I love working with metal and color. It will be in addition to my standard pieces. I love making these and get totally lost in the process.

Today, I finished this piece. I needed a wind-down day. When Kelly gave me back my pieces from the book, I knew I wanted to change one of them. Actually, the piece was never finished, but it was still used in the book. This piece was special to me because it represented my ancestry. One of my great ancestors was Daniel Boone. My family has always been hunters and thus the bullet shell casings were an appropriate talisman to remind me of my family history. My nephew brought me the shells. He was so proud and excited to see what I had done with them.

All in all, this was a very productive weekend doing the things I love and spending time with those I love....family and friends.

Next weekend...BRONZE PMC!

For Maija

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/SLIMwcUPcxI/AAAAAAAAAKY/tkFtiehH864/s320/Basset+Update.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5238263342959653650" />
Maija, this is for you. After coming back from CA, I have been really inspired to create once again. For the longest time, my desire had just left...the move, work, life all got in the way. I think we sometimes need a good break to see our work from a different perspective, with a clear and fresh mind. I had so many things I wanted to accomplish this weekend, and it was productive in so many ways. While out in CA, Deryn inspired me to make a piece of jewelry from a rosary that was given to me when I was about 8 or 9 years old. It always hung on my bedside and it always made me feel safe. When I was scared, I would sleep with it under my pillow. Now I can have it close by me again and close to my heart with the memories attached to it. Deryn also challanged me to use larger beads...okay, I only used three, but it's a start! I also started on some new metal work that I hope to finish up next weekend.

For Ruth and Kelly

I just got back from a quick trip to B&N....IT'S ON THE SHELVES AT BARNES AND NOBLES!!! Just taking this minute to write it out and read it aloud brings such a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Sure...there are things to be done to "complete" the move as well as get the old home ready for sale, but I feel such a state of contentment. Life just seems to be right where it should be. I don't want to ask for more than that...I don't need more than that. I had always heard that your 40's would be great years. For the most part, they have been. My
40's have been full of lessons, both good and bad. I feel as if I have really "grown" from each with a greater appreciation and understanding of life. I have learned to let go...of everything that has no place...both in my home and in my heart.

Here is a moment of contentment shared with a very significant "lady" in my household. Thanks for visiting....

Time to Unwind...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/SA3twxilS_I/AAAAAAAAAJo/zMnWISe7v04/s320/Iris.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192067367615941618" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/SA3tnxilS-I/AAAAAAAAAJg/rlxu1mKIGPM/s320/Clematis.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192067212997118946" />
So much has happened since I last posted that it would take me a month to sit and write it all out. Let's just say, I have been very busy. Artfest came and went and it was a wonderful experience. I have been to many different venues, but Artfest continues to be my favorite. There is something really magical about the experience, but the surroundings are enough to put anyone at ease. It was just what I needed at a very busy time in my life. I will definitely go back next year.

The move is making progress. Not at the snap of the fingertips that I would prefer, but we are moved in for the most part. Now all the unpacking, repacking, pictures to be hung, furniture to be placed, new furniture to be bought, etc...and the list goes on. This morning I'm at the mercy of the cable company. They will be here anywhere between 8 - noon. How is that for a good estimate? So, I thought I would take advantage of catching up on some emails, bill paying (ughh!), and of course, unpacking...

One of the beautiful discoveries since moving in is the beautiful plants that have come up. The yard is so nicely landscaped and we are making discoveries every day. It was obvious one of the prior owners was partial to purple as there are purple blooms everywhere. I love coming out to my back yard with a cup of coffee and just taking it all in. We are so lucky to have found this house, but so blessed in that it is full of the beauty of nature. More pictures later, but for now, I wanted to share a bit of my joy.

Home Sweet Homes

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R-T9ywW4-cI/AAAAAAAAAJY/544SiK81mAI/s320/IMG_0748.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5180544519799110082" />
New work. One of a kind. When I made this piece, I had no idea we would be moving. This piece had been roaming my heart and mind for some time and is finally complete. She's taught me alot about letting go in the short time that I have known her. I love the fact that she dances, but not just in her house. She dances in her yard or pretty much anywhere. I'll dance in my house occasionally hidden by the walls where no one can see me. It's safe kind of dancing. A finger snap here and there, a quick shuffle of the feet, but that's pretty much it. My dancing days are long gone, at least I thought. Then in response to Kelly's post yesterday, I decided to go for it. Life is too short and she looked like she was having a blast! Outside and off the deck I flew, letting go to my hearst desire. It felt great! The "kids" thought I had lost it...but not quite as much as my husband when he came home to find his wife leaping through the air in the back yard!

Oh, and Kelly, you failed to mention that if you don't warm up and leap frequently, you may throw your back out or pull a muscle....Now where did I pack that bottle of Advil?

Moving

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R9SBrcqoRFI/AAAAAAAAAJI/C3zO1twryDc/s320/New+Home.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175904455184893010" />
We are moving. We are moving...I think it is finally sinking in. We have been in this home for over 10 years and have been looking on and off. This is such a big change for me, one that is both welcome and at the same time very frightening. I have become so comfortable here. Every time I walk in the front door, I am at peace. That IS how a home should feel. I know that I will feel at home in our new place after some time, but it is still change and the "unknown. Where will I grocery shop, what Vet will we use, how far away is the closest Starbucks? (We found that out today as I HAD to know.) But, it is time and we were both ready. It all happened so quickly. Jeff went out riding on the "bike" last weekend and came home with a bunch of flyers. He looked on the Internet all day. I thought it would pass...on our way to Lowes, we ended up looking at houses for 3 hours. Then another full day followed. The last home we looked at, I told Jeff as we drove up..."this is the one." And it was. It had everthing we wanted in a home and more. We went back today to take some measurements. It will need new kitchen counters and hardwood flooring in a few rooms. We will have that all done before we move in. As I sit and write, I keep wondering how it will feel. How long will it take before it is really "home." But the biggest question is, how will I possibly pack up and move my studio!!!! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Here is a front photo. It has a 3-car garage, but one got cut off in the photo...

Indulgence

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R9KzesqoREI/AAAAAAAAAJA/pa7P4NA-m70/s320/Brachs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175396261769528386" />
It's spring time...that means buds on trees, sprouting bulbs, and Brachs Malted Milk Eggs.... Yes, the time for indulgence is here! I put the word out that I was on the look out for Brachs Malted Milk Eggs and scored two bags yesterday!!! If I had a major weakness, it would be these babies! I can put a bag away in a matter of minutes, but I won't. I will savor each one. I'm very partial to the Brachs brand. I have eaten these since I was a little girl, and I never stray away. I have eaten others, but I always come back to these as my very favorite. They bring back memories of white lips, white patten leather shoes and a new easter dress. It's funny how something so little can bring back memories so big.

What is your indulgence? Not having children of my own, these guys ARE my children and I am TOTALLY in love with them. The newest addition is "Gracie" a 13 week old basset hound puppy. Her previous owner couldn't keep her and was looking for a good home. Ms. Gracie won the lottery when she entered our doors. There is a little less room on the king size bed, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Harley, our other basset (10 months) is totally content with his new friend. Instant babysitter for the pup. As for Ziggy, well, as you can see...he keeps a constant eye on her....

Getting Ready

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R5OP_wpJ6KI/AAAAAAAAAIY/u78QFoTnKI8/s320/IMG_0663.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157624323821398178" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R5OP0QpJ6JI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/Uv61-ATvMO0/s320/IMG_0664.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157624126252902546" />
I'm coming up for air...seems like my life is on full speed with no break until February. I knew January would be a busy month at work and I geared up for it mentally, but too many late nights working catches up. I finally took yesterday to spend a nice relaxing day with my Sister and just do whatever...that is hard for me as I have a few shows coming up that I need to get ready for. It was nice though and today I was ready to get back to the studio with a better focus.

Here is a photo of what I've been working on and some of the tools I use. I didn't realize how much work was involved in making these. My goal is to have 40 ready for Artfest vendor night, but we'll see. As they progress, I'll upload more photos. Lots of ribbon and silver will follow...As I work on these, so many more ideas pop into my head. I've promised myself that I will finish these and then a new series will begin..I can't wait.

Back to work now....

Simplicity

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R4okqApJ6II/AAAAAAAAAII/xMvchugzy-A/s320/Simplicity.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5154973027624675458" />
While "HOPE" will always be my favorite word, "SIMPLICITY" will be the word I live by, or strive to live by. You don't get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are well rounded, with a complete perspective on life.
You are solid and dependable. You are loyal, and people can count on you.
At times, you can be a bit too serious. You tend to put too much pressure on yourself.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. You won't be disappointed.

Kelly sent me this huge box full of goodies...sharpie pens in every color, Soufle pens, a candle, a journal, list notes, bath crystals, tea, chocolate, tons of the greatest epherma, beetle wings (they are really cool), quills, the most beautiful ornament (she has a great tutorial on her site), and this really cool painting. It all touched me so deeply, but this painting is so special to me and I wanted to share it with you (no, you can't have it, but I'll let you look)... Kelly put a lot of thought into this piece, about me...I absolutely love it Kelly...your package made my day, my month and year. You are such a special person!

More Ornaments

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R0nU8OrK2iI/AAAAAAAAAHw/f0lAi4sRKYY/s320/Ornament+blue.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5136870981189163554" />
I LOVE this time of year. I'm always inspired to create something from the bottom of my heart...something meaningful and something to share. A few years ago, I participated in an ornament swap. It was fun receiving handmade ornaments. I didn't participate the past two years as I wasn't sure I would have the time to make the commitment. Instead, I decided that if I had time, I would make ornaments and send them out as RAKs with no return expected, but purely from my heart.

This year, I wanted to share my favorite word, "hope." The word "hope" has always been my favorite word as it is the opposite of despair. Each little star is painted and sewn. A tiny lightbulb hangs from the bottom representing the light of the Christmans season. I loved making these and I hope those receiving them will cherish them as well.

Wishing you all a blessed holiday season!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/R0Cr-urK2hI/AAAAAAAAAHo/i_MqchuPhHg/s320/IMG_0621.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5134292669371701778" />
The radio stations are already playing Christmas music! It was honest and real, no editing before sending...She is really an amazing woman.

Our emails back and forth gave me a lot to think about. I'm not a shy person, but I am in many ways a private person. It takes a while to know me, the real me...Our conversation and my after thoughts prompted these two pages in my art journal, titled Peeling Back the Layers and Connections....

Fantastic Mail Day!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/RzJnU2plosI/AAAAAAAAAHA/vWIcrY-NYCU/s320/Sally+Mail.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130276533493408450" />
Every night after work, I follow the same routine...drive towards home, into the neighborhood, around the block and stop to get the mail. It is like clockwork...never miss a day, unless it is a federal holiday (or Sunday). Some days are more exciting than others...like when Amazon delivers a new book...but today was something special...I received this fabulous piece of mail art from the VERY talented Sally Turlington. I couldn't even look at the other mail, as I was awestruck by this incredible piece of artwork. When I got home, I didn't want to open it...I knew I would have to, as I knew what was in it, but I just wanted it to remain in tact. I took my time...found the letter opener and finally opened it very carefully. It was worth waiting for...another great surprise...the most lovely ATC by Sally.

Sally, you made my day! I love the colors of Halloween and the aroma of all the candy! I'm sitting here waiting for all the little ones to come dressed in their costumes. It brings back such great memories of when I was little. The costumes certainly have changed! So far, I've managed to eat two fun size Snickers, a box of Milk Duds and a Kit Kat... that Tootsie Pop is looking pretty good too!

This past weekend, my husband and I made the annual trip to Dallas for a Halloween party. We always have such a great time dressing up and acting like complete idiots! This year was extra special as I met up with some old high school and college friends. It's amazing how we just pick up where we left off. That is the beauty of real friendships. I have known Susan since 6th grade. Yep, we were the nerds that ate brown bag lunches together. We laugh now, but we were pitiful!

Here are a few pre-party pics. If you would like more information, please send me an email and I would be happy to send you more information.

Lorraine

Where is Fall??

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/RxFKWoRMCeI/AAAAAAAAAFw/4j0tgJ96cj8/s320/Clay+Ole+Postcard.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5120956003924052450" />
I know I live in Texas, but come on folks...a little cool weather wouldn't hurt! We have had a few cool mornings, but that's about it. The days are getting shorter, leaves are turning, but it is still hot! I long to wear a sweatshirt,curl up with a blanket and a good book. I'll give it one more week, and then I'm cranking the air conditioner down to 65!!

I've been busy, busy. Busy at work and busy at home. I'm getting ready for a trunk show next weekend. I'll be glad when it's over. I love the "groove" of getting ready, as I stay focused, and get alot accomplished. My head always swims with new ideas, but I have to stay focused until the show is over. What kind of show? A Jewelry Trunk Show held in conjunction with Clay Ole. I'll be participating with nine other metal artists. If you're near San Antonio next weekend, it will be held at the San Antonio Garden Center, 3310 N. New Braunfels @ Funston, from 10:00 - 4:00. It will be fun! I'll be posting some photos of available pieces on my jewelry blog in the next couple of days. Take a peek when you get the chance, but better yet, stop by my booth next weekend!

Time for a Change

I decided it was time for a change....Blog needed an update. We talked about many things, but the topic we spent the most time on was the realization life is too short. It was interesting to see how our stories were all similar...reaching that point in your life where you just don't sweat the small stuff. We all cherish the moments of free time we have and spend more time at home than we once did working our way up the corporate ladder. Then it dawned on me that we all are about the same age...is this something that is just built into each of us? That "age" when body parts start to fall, but our spirits rise up to touch the sky?

Cleaning my studio this afternoon, this picture fell out of a book. It was from a class I once took from Karen Michel. It made me stop and think again about our conversation last night... "The Purpose of Your Life." Fitting...something to tink about...

After a Long Break

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/RtsXS1LV96I/AAAAAAAAAFg/XR6zpHd0AlE/s320/Grab+my+Heart.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105700214834329506" />
I've taken a break...a very long and needed break. Working full time doesn't allow me the freedom to sit at the computer for very long anymore. I have to make choices...either spend my time doing something productive, or spend time catching up on the computer. Don't get me wrong...I love to sit and catch up on all the blogs and groups, but I just don't have that luxary anymore...so, I have made some goals:

1) Update my blog once a month
2) Take one hour a week to catch up reading my favorite blogs
3) HIRE A HOUSEKEEPER (a must, must, must!)
4) Put no pressures on myself

This break away has been very positive in that I have learned so much about myself, my strengths and weaknesses (both personally and professionally), the power of true friendships, and the importance of being genuine.

This being a 3-day weekend, I immerged myself in creativity. Thank goodness for opening bird season weekend, as I have the house to myself and four critters...

When it comes to visual arts, I always work intuitively. I see something and immediately it just comes to me. I bought a Dover clip art book and was flipping through the pages with a Halloween theme in mind, but something else came to mind instantly...that which grabs our heart. While the pictures are pretty bare (bare to the bones, literally)there was such power in my thought process as I moved quickly through the pieces. Our hearts can be grabbed both positively and negatively...that we can not control, but what we can control is how we react to those feelings...

More Seeds of Hope

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/RlCZ0otNgOI/AAAAAAAAAFM/xbbxxO0HMRw/s320/Seeds+of+Hope2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5066718710351102178" />
I had such a great time making the ATC's yesterday, that I decided to make another batch for trade today. I'm in such a different stage in my life right now. I have been planting flowers like crazy. My Sister's say that I'm finally nesting. Hmm...maybe there is hope for me yet. I'm no Martha Stewart, that is for sure! I'm not a very domestic person, but I find myself wanting to be home more lately and really enjoying the contentment of just sitting on my deck and taking in the beauty of God's existence in such simple pleasures as a flower....

Off to plant, but if you are interested in trading for one of these ATC's, drop me a note.

Seeds of Hope

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/Rk94VotNgNI/AAAAAAAAAFE/uR7yG9NoUto/s320/Seeds+of+Hope.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5066400418914730194" />
I'm in an ATC swap with a small group of folks and thought I would finish mine as the deadline quickly arrives. Where has this year gone? The schools are already finishing up for the summer and it seems like they the school buses were just starting their routes...

I had prepared these backrounds quite some time ago, but needed to try something new, thus the purpose of the ATC swap...something new we haven't tried before. One of the suggested categories was sewing. Although I have sewn before, I had never sewn on an ATC. Sometimes ideas just flow into my head and I knew immediately what I wanted to do. I wanted to "sew" seeds of Hope. So I encased real seeds in a vinyl pocket. In one day I went from being totally content at home to accepting a full time job. I wasn't looking for a job, it, or they found me. It was kind of funny as I had been wondering about where my life was going, what my purpose was...all those things that "hit" us at times and make us contemplate as to why we are here. I thought I was finished with the corporate world and with just one phone call, it all changed. It's funny, but I have just settled in like I was never gone. I love being back with people, having morning coffee on the drive in. I guess God had different plans for me as I feel so content. I haven't had a moment to slow down and make some art since I returned to work, but I did manage to make this portfolio the weekend before I returned to work. It's a gift for my Sister. She so admired the portfolio I bought from the wonderful and talented DJ Pettitt. If you ever have a chance to take one of her classes, you should! I'll "blog" when I can...thank you for stopping by...

Mineral

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_1q5yXvB-cGA/RaZtMQsgwtI/AAAAAAAAACg/TlC7_5xg9lo/s320/ZIG+-Mineral.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5018818892158517970" />
A while back, I traded some art with a young artist, Ziggy Hill, in the UK. I was thrilled with the piece I received from him and have continued to watch him grow as an artist. I think he is extremely talented. He recently launched a website, Funns, and I love what he said about himself and his art. Check his "About Me" page. I bought one of his paintings, Mineral, and I can't wait to add it to my "Zigg" collection. If you get the chance, send him a word of encouragement. I'm just taking time to have lunch with friends and work on art projects. This is for a skinny book swap. The theme is windows or portals. With Christmas just behind us, I find myself continously filled with thoughts of Christ. I wanted to reflect these thoughts in my page, thus this is my contribution - a window to my soul.

For '2007, I have decided to keep a journal, specifically a "hope" journal. Each page will contain a piece of art along with the inspiration journaled beside it. Since I will be out of town as the new year rolls in, I wanted to get a head start and finished one piece of art which will be pasted into my journal. Tonight, I will complete my thoughts.

Wishing everyone a very safe and happy new year!

Watching Guard

It was such a nice quiet day yesterday. I prefer to think of wierd as odd or eccentric, so I am listing 6 odd things about myself.

1) I like to peel my toast apart into two sections and eat them sepearately. First I take the crust off and then peel the remaining bread apart. I have done this for years...I know, "odd."

2) I hate to walk around barefoot, but prefer to have bare feet when I wear shoes..

3) I have to sleep with a fan on, even if it is freezing cold. Always have and always will.

4) I love skulls and skeletons (mostly in association with the Mexican Day of the Dead Celebration).

5) I set an alarm every morning, even on weekends. I hate sleeping in as I feel like I have wasted a day.

6) I don't want any furniture on my new deck. Nope, not even patio stuff. I like the "clean" look of the large deck. So why did we buld it, my Mother asks?.... So the dog can have a place to nap in the sun without getting dirty, I answer!

Okay, I tag Annie, Tracie and Sue!

RR Calendar Swap - October Pages

Oops...just a bit late. I have found some of the most unusual pieces created by artists in central Mexico. I recently acquired a new piece, a mermaid, which I am thrilled to now own. She is so fragile and delicate, but sits high on my mantle away from the cats!

Our other addition was given to me and my husband from a friend I have had since 6th grade. It was an award at her Halloween party for coming the farthest to attend. She knows that my husband and I love to ride and we came as what else, bikers! I'd have to say that this is Jeff's favorite between the two new additions!

Halloween ATC's

Here are the ATC's I received in a recent exchange with the theme of Halloween. I could hear her voice as I read her email and it reminded me of some of special times in France when laughter was in abundance. One Saturday we all ventured off to a flea market in the countryside. On the way out of the market, Lois had stopped at one vendors booth, only to discover that they had....clown noses. Lois being the hoot that she is, bought up enough for the group. We schemed a plan to bring the clown noses to dinner and deliver the rest of the noses to the group as a surprise, and boy, were they surprised! I had not laughed that hard for such an extended period that my checks hurt. Here are a few pictures of the evening event. I can still hear the laughter....

Memories of France

I thought I would take some time to share my wonderful memories of my trip to France. It was truely one of the best experiences of my life...I was uncertain how I would feel in a country where Americans are not thought of highly, but for the most part, the French were very welcoming and warm. I was a bit nervous at first, but I was lucky enough to fly into Toulouse with my roommate to be, Lois. We arrived in Toulouse and had to pick up the rental car...no problem, I had a full tank of gas, a map, and Lois. As we drove out of the airport, it suddenly occured to me that I could not read the road signs...and did you know that in France, they don't have 4 way stops or signs that tell you what the next major intersection will be? Needless to say, we instantly got lost and had a lovely tour of Toulouse. How we ever managed to get to the hotel is a miricle, but a good bottle of French wine calmed any left over anxiety!

The following day, we met up with our group and drove to Dufort, which is an old copper mining town. The stream runs down the center of town, which was once used to wash copper items that were made by hand in those days. Here are some pictures of the town and our room with a spectacular view. It was amazing and nothing like I had ever seen before. Lois and I shared a room that overlooked a stream with a running waterfall and slept with the windows open at night so we could listen to the music of the waterfall...

We had our own cook, Neesha, that came daily to make us breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were all very spoiled after a week of her cooking. The French use no preservatives in their food and their food tastes so fresh and wonderful. They eat lots of cheese and bread with every meal. I loved it, savored every moment of every meal and still dream about how wonderful the food was...

To be continued...

RR Calendar Swap

I finally had the motivation to work in the calendar swap for September. I am a whopping 45 years old and if you say it real fast, it doesn't sound to bad! The way I look at age is that Madonna will always be older than me, so I'm "safe!" Funny the mind games we play with ourselves!

I've had a great birthday. Contemplating my age made me think about all the things I have to be grateful for. Here are a few:

1) I am grateful to have lived to be 45.
2) I am grateful to be an American.
3) I am grateful for a wonderful and supporting husband.
4) I am grateful for my animals, even when they drag toilet paper throughout the house (okay, so at times I am ungrateful for a moment).
5) I am grateful for my Sisters who believe in me.
6) I am grateful for the gift of creativity.
7) I am grateful for friends.
8) I am grateful for the roof over my head and food to eat.
9) I am grateful for rainstorms and the smell that follows.
10) I am grateful for music and the ability to hear it.
11) I am grateful to have faith in God.
12) I am grateful for chocolate and the ability to taste it.
13) I am grateful for the sun and the ability to feel the warmth on my skin (I'll be really grateful when the temp. drops too!).
14) I am grateful for Starbucks mochas on Saturday mornings.
15) I am grateful I have a car to drive.
16) I am grateful I have clothes on my back and shoes to wear.
17) I am grateful for the education I received.
18) I am grateful that I am sensitive and emotional.
19) I am grateful for the ice cream cone I'm going to eat tonight (Ben & Jerry's).
20) I am grateful for the person God made me to be!

Jeff is home, so off to birthday dinner!

Feel Ok

I love the Internet...I have met some pretty remarkable people, and some wonderful artists. I received this canvas in the mail today from Ziggy Hill. We recently completed an art trade. I have always been drawn to outsider art, abstract paintings, and just "different". I love art that moves me emotionally. I really like Zig's art because it is simple, with a simple message, a little abstract and heart warming...Thank you so much Zig for parting with this piece as you have absolutely made my day! When we left for the airport on Weds. afternoon, we had no idea that we would be there for over six (6) hours. At first it was a delay of 15 minutes and then before we knew it, it was 10:20 PM and we still had not borded the plane! So...I took advantage of the time and began to draw in my Moleskin journal. Mom is a pack rat and has never been able to part with anything that had any sentimental value to her. We had some really great laughs and it was a very special evening for me. We came across these paintings I had made while I was probably around 10 or 11. My Mom was always putting me in art classes and art camps. I could never figure it out why I had to go to art camps and my Sisters were off to ride horses...but after all these years, I realized that my Mom saw something in me that she wanted to nurture and I will forever be thankful for that...

New Banner

There are so many incredibly talented people in this world and Denise (Boho Blog Banners) is one of them. Paul was kind enough to sell it to me...she is one of his simple pieces, but so pleasing to look at.

My Artist Muse

Every artist has to have a muse...something or someone that inspires you. My muse is my cat Ziggy. I am his Mother, or so he thinks anyway...he's usually in my studio sitting under my bench and watching for lizards to go by the window. He simply cracks me up. My husband calls him "stretch", for he simply does not lay like an ordinary cat...he lays all stretched (like a back bend) so that he looks like he's reaching for his toes...If I ever need a smile, I can count on Ziggy to brighten my day and to get the juices flowing....

Venice Fat Book

This is my first experience participating in a fat book swap.
